Keep water out where the roof meets the chimney.
A London chimney stack takes more weather than any other part of the house. The mortar joints wash out, the flaunching around the pots cracks, and the lead where the stack meets the roof lifts or splits. Water then runs down the inside of the stack and shows up as damp on the chimney breast.
We rake out the failed mortar and repoint the stack, renew the flaunching around the pots, and check and replace the lead soakers and flashings at the junction with the roof. Our own photos show new lead dressed around brick stacks on grey tile and slate roofs.
